Lance Gross is best known for his award winning portrayal of Calvin Payne in Tyler Perry’s hit TBS sitcom HOUSE OF PAYNE (2007-2012) for which he won two consecutive NAACP Image Awards in 2008 and 2009 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
He recently starred in the Tyler Perry film TYLER PERRY's TEMPTATION: CONFESSIONS OF A MARRIAGE COUNSELOR (released in March 2013) opposite Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Vanessa Williams, and Brandy Norwood for Lionsgate.
In 2012, he appeared in the remake of STEEL MAGNOLIAS, starring opposite Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, and Jill Scott for the Lifetime Movie Network.
That same year, Lance produced and starred in the independent feature, THE LAST FALL. In the film, he portrayed an NFL player who finds himself unemployed and struggling to reconnect with his family and high school sweetheart. The film premiered at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival.
Lance made his feature film debut alongside Tyler Perry and Angela Bassett in the 2008 Lionsgate/Tyler Perry dramedy MEET THE BROWNS. He has also starred alongside America Ferrera, Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia in FOX Searchlight's OUR FAMILY WEDDING and guest starred on USA Network's ROYAL PAINS.
On television in 2014, Lance will star in NBC's series CRISIS. He'll play Marcus Finley, a Secret Service agent pulled into an international crisis on his first day of work after the President’s son and countless classmates are kidnapped. His costars in this conspiracy thriller are Dermot Mulroney, Gillian Anderson, Rachael Taylor, and REVENGE alum Max Martini as the villain.
In addition to acting, Lance has appeared in numerous music videos for R&B stars Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Kirk Franklin, Latoya Luckett, Angela Simmons, Kelis, Mary J. Blige, and Tyra B to name a few.
Lance is a native of Oakland, California and received his Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Howard University. He trained at The Ivanna Chubbuck Studio and Tasha Smith Acting Studio. He originally wanted to become a professional track and field athlete, but turned it down in order to pursue his dream of acting. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
