Rod Langway

Ice Hockey Legend

Rod Langway is a former American professional ice hockey defenseman who played 15 NHL seasons from 1978 to 1993.

Known in Washington as the "Franchise Saver", Langway was always willing to sacrifice his body for the club, never giving less than his best effort and expecting nothing less from those around him.

His jersey number (#5) was retired by the Washington Capitals on November 26, 1997. In 1999, he was officially inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and followed that up with his induction into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. Finally, the ultimate accolade was received with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.
